Module 8: Self Delusion, Self Denial and Self Deceit

Please note that the course in December 2009 will be the last Module 8 to be on 'Self-DDD'. From 2009, the content of this Module will be 'The Patterns That Connect'. Watch this space for further information.

We all deceive ourselves – it’s one of the ways we maintain our mental health, protecting our sense of meaning, control and self-esteem.

But what if self-delusion, self-denial or self-deceit becomes part of the problem? What if the effort of maintaining the fiction becomes too much to bear?  And what if our clients are the only ones who cannot see the lie they are living? How can we help ‘Cleanly’?

In Module 8 you will:

• Learn to help a client to name their own ‘elephant in the room’. Once acknowledged, it’s possible to work with these beasts until they shrink, and finally disappear!
• Explore the various ways that we maintain the ‘3 Ds’, and a model for moving beyond them to knowing your personal truth and acting from that truth
• Practise maintaining a Clean attitude when you don’t know what’s happening or where it’s going
• Find out how to get a client’s awareness onto things they have only a fleeting awareness of

You’ll become aware of some of your own self-DDD patterns, and how these can be transformed into self-truthfulness. This is a great way to develop the modelling skills required to work effectively with others who self-DDD.

Although the course draws on therapeutic examples, the skills you will learn have wider applications, in business and beyond.

This Module is presented by Penny Tompkins and James Lawley, who will give live demonstrations of client work. You might even get the chance to be their client yourself!
