Module 1: Introducing Clean Language and Metaphor

Next dates: 17 and 18 February 2009.  Curious about Clean Language? This elegant and powerful questioning technique may seem simple — but it opens a door to a new way of  thinking about how people’s minds actually work.

Latest research reveals that metaphor is the very stuff of thought. So if you want to truly understand people and how they tick, you’ll find it much easier when you can help them explore their internal metaphoric worlds.

In these two packed days you’ll get to grips with the basic Clean Language questions (devised by David Grove) and start to use them to investigate the metaphors people use. The results will surprise and delight you.

With Clean, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Help people escape their well-worn 'prepared scripts' and uncover their own secret truth
  • Avoid 'leading the witness' by staying ‘Clean’
  • Fully recognise difference and diversity
  • Reduce the risk of unconscious bias or unwitting unhelpful suggestions
  • Gather rich layers of knowledge to encourage creative development and change.

In this Module you will:

  • Learn four different types of Clean question, and find out how and when to use them
  • Come face to face with the importance of metaphor, both in language and in thought
  • Start to notice and exploit the ‘casual’ metaphors in everyday conversation
  • Take your listening skills to a new level
  • Discover the value of your own metaphors.

The course will be led by the co-authors of Clean Language: Revealing Metaphors and Opening Minds - Wendy Sullivan, one of the world's most experienced Clean trainers, and Judy Rees.
