July 2007: Change with Clean Language

Things are hotting up at Clean Change HQ as we count down to our first-ever summer school. People from eight different countries will be gathering in Cambridge next week: some aiming to become Certified Clean Facilitators in the space of just twelve days, while others are training to become trainers of Clean Language in their home countries. We’ll tell you how it went next month!

How else can Clean help business change?
“One manager saved over six man weeks of time. Another reduced waiting time from 4 weeks to two days. Another increased capacity by 35%. Huge reductions of personal stress were reported, as much as 50 per cent. A number of them got promoted, and someone won a national award!” Lynne Cooper of Clean consultancy Amicas got great results from a Clean-based training within the NHS. www.amicas.co.uk

Next introductory training
Now’s the time to sign up for this September’s Clean training in central London, led by Wendy Sullivan. In two linked weekends you’ll go from first steps to fluency with the Clean Language
questions, and learn to use them to explore people’s personal metaphors, for modeling excellence and for helping them to change: 15-16 and 29-30 September

Cleaning tip: Maturing changes
If you’ve been using Clean Language questions to help someone explore a desired outcome
and suddenly, something about the metaphor changes, it’s not the end of the
process, even if it seems to be just the change they wanted.

The next step is to ‘mature the change’: that is, to ask Clean questions about the change itself and its effects on the rest of the landscape and the effects over time. This process helps make sure the change is likely to stay changed, permanently.

Expert Clean facilitators often spend almost as much time maturing changes as they do
developing the initial landscape. Why not try it?

Penny Tompkins and James Lawley in Liverpool

13th August - An evening when they will demonstrate Symbolic Modelling in action. There
will be an open frame for your questions and an opportunity for you to practise.
16th to 19th August - Modelling for Change and Personal Development. This module will help you to spot when your client is presenting a problem, a remedy or a desired outcome and to decide which questions to respond plus much more….

Clean in Dutch
“Within two questions, you’ve cut through the usual self-repeating story!” That was just one of the enthusiastic comments from a group of Dutch coaches and counselors introduced to Clean at a CvCC conference in Goirle, Holland. The two-and-a-half-hour workshop led by Annemiek van Helsdingen and Maaike Nooitgedagt led them from being mildly curious with healthy criticism to surprised and very enthusiastic about the process - ready to sign up for the pair’s Module 1 Dutch-language Clean training in September. The Developing Group background notes to be published
James Lawley and Penny Tompkins established The Developing Group in January 1997 and it has met every other month since. It’s initial focus was supervision, however, in October 2001 the remit changed to providing a forum for the exploration of new ideas in the field. Each day is accompanied by background notes which either form the basis of a published article or they remain ‘work in progress’. The articles have always been available on Penny and James’s web site but now they
have decided to make available all of the unpublished notes as well. Eleven have been posted so far. A brief history of the group and a list of all subjects presented since Oct 2001 are available here www.cleanlanguage.co.uk/articles/categories/Related-Material/The-Developing-Group/.

I've now completed four modules of Clean Language training. They have all been superb - beautifully presented experiential learning.
