Clean Summer School 2009
17 – 30 July 2009 Bring your consulting and coaching skills bang up to date by learning advanced communication skills in a packed 14-day intensive event. This is the international event for courageous, curious, and creative individuals who want to use Clean Language and metaphor to achieve great results straight away. That’s two weeks of top-quality training for as little as £1,797 including VAT!
Past participants have included teachers, coaches, IT developers, trainers, health professionals, managers, psychotherapists, HR professionals and more… people come from all over the world, including the USA, Canada, Russia and Australia… it all makes for a rich and exotic learning environment!
With Clean Language, you’ll be equipped to achieve genuine clarity of understanding, to listen as you’ve never listened before, to explore the hidden depths of people’s unconscious systems and to facilitate transformative, long-lasting change.
“In all honesty I have not been involved in anything so challenging, thought-provoking and vision-enhancing as the last days doing Clean Language. It certainly was a skill-changing experience and I am going to be putting the process into action as soon as possible.” Summer School participant Pamela Hadfield.
The training
The Summer School covers the whole of our foundation course:
Module 1, Introducing Clean Language and Metaphor, two days: 17 and 18 July
- Learn the different types of Clean Language question and when to use them
- Experience the power of metaphoric worlds
- Take your listening skills to a new level
- Start to notice and use the ‘casual’ metaphors in everyday conversation.
Module 2, Targeting Change, two days: 19 and 20 July
- Direct your Clean work toward change
- Use the metaphors in ‘body language’
- Watch metaphors develop ‘a life of their own’
- Distinguish problems, remedies & outcomes.
Module 3, Changing for Good, three days: 22 – 24 July
- Structure your Clean sessions within a comprehensive Framework for Change
- Use metaphor to create action plans
- Start to devise your own Clean applications
- Find out about the times when even top Clean specialists don’t use Clean.
Module 4, Space for Success, three days: 25 – 27 July
- Find out how and why physical space makes such a difference in our lives
- Learn to harness space — and different kinds of spaces — in new and unusual ways
- Enjoy the synchronicities which emerge when space is your co-facilitator.
Certification, two days: 29 and 30 July
- Be assessed against internationally-agreed competency criteria
- Receive high-quality feedback on your skills from a team including Wendy Sullivan and Judy Rees
- Meet the standard, and you’ll become a Certified Clean Facilitator (Foundation level).
(21 and 28 July are scheduled as rest/practice days)
As on our London trainings, the event will be led by Wendy Sullivan, one of the world’s leading trainers of Clean.
There’ll be support from a team of experienced assistants. Thanks to them, there’ll be additional, optional evening activities and practice sessions.
Because we’ll be together many more hours per day than on our standard trainings, there’ll be lots of time for practice, for making friends, and for developing your ideas about how to put your Clean skills to use back home.
Free time for sightseeing, however, will be limited. Following feedback from our first residential event, in 2007, we added two rest days into the programme. Experience suggests you will need to use them to rest!
Whether you’re looking to improve communication in business, dramatically increase your effectiveness as a coach, therapist or counsellor, develop research and interviewing techniques which get to the truth faster and more accurately, or want to use Symbolic Modelling for something completely different, this is the quickest way to Clean up.
It all adds up to a great adventure.
The venue
We’ll be based amid the elegance of St Catharine’s College – a centre of learning since 20 years before Columbus sailed. That means our accommodation is close to the town centre and a short walk from the River Cam.
We offer two very different kinds of accommodation at the college. The en-suite rooms are bang up to date, in a modern building cunningly concealed within the college walls. Though not luxurious, they have modern comforts. We also have the option of a standard room for those on a tight budget. These rooms are in the older parts of the college and are of extremely variable quality. They’re clean, and some have amazing bonuses such as pianos. But nothing can be guaranteed except an authentic student experience! All rooms have internet access, phones and a small shared kitchenette, but not hairdriers. Some rooms have fridges. We also have access to a TV lounge, laundry facilities etc.
If you prefer, you can arrange your own accommodation elsewhere in Cambridge.
The training room is nearby, set in a wonderful garden which we can use for activities on sunny days.
The experience
Expect to make great friends while working in a multinational, multicultural group.
Expect to spend time on your feet, and out of doors where possible.
Expect to throw yourself into the experience and to feel stretched. Be ready to challenge and be challenged – as with all Clean Change courses, don’t attend if you prefer to be “sheep-dipped”!
“I am so pleased that you went ahead with the summer school. It has added so much more to my understanding of clean and the environment seemed to push us all along so easily. Congratulations on a wonderful job.” Summer School 2007 participant Rasjad Johnson, Australia… who came to work in the UK during 2008 so that he could attend our Advanced Modules.
