It's been an exciting month, with the launch of an all-new web site from the Developing Company, ten years on from the original www.cleanlanguage.co.uk. The web address is the same, but everything else about it is new.
"Naturally we used the Symbolic Modelling process to come up with an 'organising metaphor' (ably facilitated by web designer, Phil Swallow): what emerged was a metaphor of a gallery displaying The Clean Collection. After all, this may be the only place in the world that has an overview of all the bits related to Symbolic Modelling and David Grove's work. We've transferred all the existing articles and added several new ones to mark the launch - and if you've been thinking of sending us an article for inclusion, now would be a great time to do so! Cleaning tip: conversational Clean Language
Clean Language can be valuable in ordinary conversations, as well as in formal coaching-type settings! To make Clean questions more conversational:
* Use the metaphors that crop up naturally, rather than asking 'That's like what?'
* Use pronouns such as 'that' and 'it' to represent their words in your question
* Add 'musing' phrases to your questions such as 'I wonder...is there a relationship between...'
* Keep it simple - only repeat occasional key words or phrases
* Speak naturally without special emphasis
* Mingle Clean Language questions with other questions.

Success story: Fast action on the Paris Metro
Noemie Dehouck used her Clean skills to help her six-year-old, Elise, handle a panic attack on a crowded Metro in Paris. Noemie explained: "We were really packed in - and Elise just panicked. It was so busy that I couldn't hold her hand or even crouch down to her level. She told me that she was not feeling at all well. I asked her some Clean questions about the feeling and she said it was like a snake in her head. And then she said: "I've offered it a sweet to make it come out - and it was a poisoned sweet." Straight away she felt fine and happy, and she has travelled happily ever since. "All this happened so quickly, between two stops on the Metro. It was witnessed by my sister-in-law, who was really impressed. Just a few questions, nothing more!"

Articles: Academics listen up
Congratulations to John Martin, whose article on Symbolic Modelling is published in the current issue of the academic journal, 'Metaphor and Symbol', Volume 23, Issue 2 (2007). It isn't available online just yet, but soon will be, both at http://www.leaonline.com and on www.cleanlanguage.co.uk.

As you probably realise, listening well is crucial to success as a Clean facilitator - and in this article Michael Mallows considers some of the challenges and offers his own tips. Read it here. Summer school countdown
We're counting the days to our first-ever Residential Summer School in historic Cambridge. This event will cover Clean Change Company's Modules 1-4, plus assessment and certification, in an intensive 12-day block. The training will be led by Wendy Sullivan and supported by an international team of assistants. Your certificate will be signed by either Penny Tompkins or James Lawley, one of whom will attend the two assessment days. Book before 28 June to secure your place! Full details here.
Hot news: community diary dates
- The Clean community is clearly growing up - we're planning a Clean Conference for 21 and 22 June 2008 in central London. More details will be announced nearer the time, but please keep your diary clear if you're keen to join us in moving the field forward.
- Following the success of our first Clean Business Exchange in March, we're planning another for 16 and 17 November 2007. If you're using Clean in organisations of any kind, you'll want to be there. Please email judy@cleanchange.co.uk if you would like to be kept informed.
- Want to become a Certified Clean Facilitator? If you've completed Clean Change Company's Modules 1-4 or equivalent, you're qualified to join us for two days of assessment, development and feedback on your skills, led by Wendy Sullivan with either James Lawley or Penny Tompkins.
