Hello and welcome to the Clean Community newsletter - particularly if you're one of the 60-plus people who've signed up during this month. Great to have you aboard!

It's been an exciting month, with the launch of an all-new web site from the Developing Company, ten years on from the original www.cleanlanguage.co.uk. The web address is the same, but everything else about it is new.

"Naturally we used the Symbolic Modelling process to come up with an 'organising metaphor' (ably facilitated by web designer, Phil Swallow): what emerged was a metaphor of a gallery displaying The Clean Collection. After all, this may be the only place in the world that has an overview of all the bits related to Symbolic Modelling and David Grove's work. We've transferred all the existing articles and added several new ones to mark the launch - and if you've been thinking of sending us an article for inclusion, now would be a great time to do so!  Please let us know what you think of the site: all feedback will be gratefully received." James Lawley

Special offer: Learn Clean Language and save £50

Want to get started with Clean Language? Following a number of requests, we've rescheduled Wendy Sullivan's next introductory training for two linked weekends in September - 15-16 and 29-30 - and moved to a more central London venue. We'd love you to join us, and to prove it, here's a deal: book your place for both weekends within two weeks of receiving this newsletter and we'll cut the price by £50. Email bookings@cleanchange.co.uk with the subject line 'September discount' to claim this offer.

And don't forget - if you've done an equivalent of our two-day Module 1 with another Clean trainer, you may be able to join us for Module 2. Call 0208 400 4832 for details.

Cleaning tip: conversational Clean Language

Clean Language can be valuable in ordinary conversations, as well as in formal coaching-type settings! To make Clean questions more conversational:

    * Use the metaphors that crop up naturally, rather than asking 'That's like what?'
    * Use pronouns such as 'that' and 'it' to represent their words in your question
    * Add 'musing' phrases to your questions such as 'I wonder...is there a relationship between...'
    * Keep it simple - only repeat occasional key words or phrases
    * Speak naturally without special emphasis
    * Mingle Clean Language questions with other questions.

To find out more about using Clean Language conversationally, come along to the central London Clean Practice Group on Tuesday, 12 June. Full details are here.

Find out what you've been missing
Interested in Clean Language? Want to find out more? On 26th June at 7pm we're going to take that interest and turn it into something that will cause you to realise how much you have been missing.... until now. We're offering a chance to get first-hand experience from the experts and to ask your questions - all from the comfort of your own home. This one-off telephone event on 26 June at 7pm BST will feature leading trainer Wendy Sullivan, together with Certified Clean Facilitator Judy Rees. Calls will cost 5p per minute from a UK landline. Book your place here.

Success story: Fast action on the Paris Metro
Noemie Dehouck used her Clean skills to help her six-year-old, Elise, handle a panic attack on a crowded Metro in Paris. Noemie explained: "We were really packed in - and Elise just panicked. It was so busy that I couldn't hold her hand or even crouch down to her level. She told me that she was not feeling at all well. I asked her some Clean questions about the feeling and she said it was like a snake in her head. And then she said: "I've offered it a sweet to make it come out - and it was a poisoned sweet." Straight away she felt fine and happy, and she has travelled happily ever since. "All this happened so quickly, between two stops on the Metro. It was witnessed by my sister-in-law, who was really impressed. Just a few questions, nothing more!"

Articles: Academics listen up
Congratulations to John Martin, whose article on Symbolic Modelling is published in the current issue of the academic journal, 'Metaphor and Symbol', Volume 23, Issue 2 (2007). It isn't available online just yet, but soon will be, both at http://www.leaonline.com and on www.cleanlanguage.co.uk

And here's one that is online. As you probably realise, listening well is crucial to success as a Clean facilitator - and in this article Michael Mallows considers some of the challenges and offers his own tips. Read it here. Michael supervises/coaches various NLP and Clean practitioners, including Penny Tompkins and James Lawley. Email michaelmallows@gmail.com for details of his 'Clean and Crafty' workshops, on Supervision and Life Coaching.
