Fire up your Clean business this autumn

Book online here

This ‘meeting of minds’ is for anyone who’s using, or planning to use, Clean Language, CleanBusinessExchange Clean Space or Symbolic Modelling in any kind of organisational setting.

We’re passionate about expanding the Clean Community – and we’ve noticed that the powerful growth of recent times has had its downside. Particularly for those working in organisations, as staff members or on a freelance/consultancy basis, it has become trickier to stay in touch. You need to keep your Clean network ‘live’ so that you hear about the newest opportunities for co-operation and collaboration, and the latest developments in the field – and the Clean Business Exchange aims to plug that gap.

Networking is an important part of its function: more than one consultancy will be actively looking for new associates at the event. And it’s more than just a networking event.

Day 1, Friday 16 November, will feature a programme of interactive presentations by experienced facilitators who are currently using Clean within organisations. They’ll bring you right up to date with what’s working for them and open your eyes to some exciting new possibilities - inviting us to explore them further still.

Day 2, Saturday 17 November, will be a day of emergence! You’ll experience the ‘Cleanish’ group facilitation process Open Space, in which anything can happen and probably will. This is ideal territory for forming new business relationships, brainstorming and experimenting with ideas, exchanging information and more.

And the venue we’ve chosen in Shepherd’s Bush, West London, lends itself to continuing conversations over an early-evening drink or meal. It is easily accessible by public transport, has some car parking space and is (just!) outside the congestion charge zone.

The cost for the two days, including tea and coffee, will be £147 per person including VAT. If you are able to attend for just one of the days, the price is £87 inclusive. You can book online here or give me a call on +44 (0)20 8400 4832.

Please note that we’ve made this event invitation-only to ensure there is a good standard of Clean skills in the room. But we have to admit we don’t know everyone who’s using Clean in organisations. If you have a colleague who would like an invitation, please let me know.

Day 1, Friday 16 November

Lynne Cooper: Identifying individual values, negotiating team values

This session will explore how identifying individual’s values helps to increase understating and reduce conflict in organisations. Also, a very recent case study of the use of metaphor to create a negotiated set of metaphors for an organisation (10,000 employees).

Lynne Cooper heads up Amicas, a leadership development organisation that has used Clean in business for around 8 years. Clean and Symbolic Modelling have been integral in all the organisational interventions that Amicas facilitates, including Senior Team Alignment, Executive Coaching, Leadership Development, and the Five-Minute Coach.

How you will benefit

You will discover how metaphors can be used to explore and agree values in individual, small group and larger team settings. You will learn how Clean has helped to fast track discussions and negotiations, and create valuable and sustainable results for clients.

Nancy Doyle: Clean Feedback model (to be confirmed)

Nancy Doyle, a Chartered Organisational Psychologist, joined Caitlin Walker in 2002 to form the partnership that is the core of Training Attention. Nancy's broad experience working with the public sector and social enterprise has enabled her to become skilled at facilitating others to find their own solutions and resolve conflict through learning and development; on an organisational, team and individual basis.

She has designed, delivered and evaluated programmes such as organisation-wide training, individual coaching sessions and team development days. Her background in organisational psychology enables Nancy to use a wide range of tools from psychometrics to team building to address concerns and move people forward into more resourceful and successful states.

Annemiek van Helsdingen: Organisational change and consultancy from a systemic point of view

In this session, a live project will be discussed and laid out. A Dutch health insurance company asked for help to develop a development program for their teamleaders. Lining up with what they'd like to have happen - lasting change when teamleaders haven't performed up to standard for years, as a general consensus - and working from personal strength, Annemiek and her colleague started working for them.

In this Clean Business Exchange session, using some fresh ingredients from the recent Module 8, she will use a format that mixes Clean Space with system dynamics. As a group we can play out the dynamics of this client system, and from there on work on the question: as a consultant in this situation, what is it that you can do that effectively facilitates the system evolving towards a or the desired outcome?

Annemiek will share her approach, interventions and results up to now, and looks forward to discovering more possibilities when sharing ideas and experiences. We will be looking to build up the working format, so that everyone participating has a better understanding of how it can be used with clients.

Annemiek van Helsdingen has been working in change management for the last 10 years in various roles. Since 2005, she and Wendy Nieuwland have run Gewoon aan de Slag, a company aimed at facilitating sustainable change for organisations, teams and individuals. Principles underpinning Clean and Symbolic Modelling provide a strong basis for what they do, though Clean doesn't always get used overtly.

How you will benefit

You will discover (more on) how Clean Space can help to specify system dynamics, share ideas and experiences with experienced consultants on what the Clean way of working can add to a live case.

Angela Dunbar: Using Mandalas with Clean Language Angela Dunbar

Angela says: “Mandalas are a universal symbol which can easily be explained as a self-reflection device, and which have been widely used in corporate training and coaching contexts. Once a client has developed a Mandala, you have a perfect ‘focus’ for your Clean Language questions, allowing you to demonstrate quickly and easily the power of Clean."

Angela will briefly talk through the concept of using mandalas as an ‘entry’ to a Clean Language session, either with an individual or a group. We’ll all then develop our own mandalas, and work in pairs to see just how Clean Language can bring this universal symbol to life very quickly and easily.

Angela is a certified Clean Language Facilitator, and has been the director of her own training & development consultancy for the last 13 years. Her specialisms are  communications, sales and marketing for the corporate world, and coaching for confidence and creativity for the individual / small business owner. Angela combines Clean Language, NLP and pragmatic sales and marketing models to help people find their niche, grow their business / and/or contacts and increase their confidence.

Ever fascinated by the power of metaphor, Angela works with people to help them discover their own creative solutions and find the message within that they want to convey in the manner they feel most confident in expressing.

Marian Way: The Clean Café

The World Café has a lot of synergy with Clean Language and Symbolic Modelling– they are both bottom-up processes that rely on questions to help a group / an individual to clarify their thinking on issues that matter. In this session we combine the two to create The Clean Café.

Marian started her career as a teacher and later carved out a career with Weight Watchers, where she co-developed the famous POINTS diet, and developed and delivered training programmes which benefited thousands of people. Marian is an NLP Master Practitioner and Trainer who specialises in applications based on Clean Language, Symbolic Modelling and Clean Space. She founded her company, Apricot Island, based on the 'clean' approach, in 2001.

How you will benefit

  • The experience as participants in a real life café means you will have a really good sense of how the café works
  • It is an example of combining Clean Language with another process – and could be used to encourage further experimentation
  • We would be working on a question that really matters to the group, so the whole group should benefit from the event
  • We would be using our Clean Language skills on our own ‘stuff’ – so reaffirming the power of Clean Language
  • Recognition of the synergy between the two processes may help people to get additional insights into the fabric of Clean Language.
